Location: downtown Kelowna block away from the water. Street parking outside. Decor is very basic and could use a refresh. Never a big fan when menu items are printed on paper and taped to the wall. This is not bbq at your table of you're looking for that. Menu pricing is ok. Not sure why the bbq option is $28 per person and minimum of 2 people. Why not just list it as $46??  Service is average.

My family and I visited this restaurant after a stroll and decided to grab a quick bite to eat. After reading the yelp reviews and seeing that this place only had a 2.5 stars, I thought I would give it a chance as on google, they had a 4.0 stars... Honestly, this is probably one of the worst Korean restaurants I have ever been too. The food was extremely bland and drenched with oil. The only reason why I gave them an extra star was due to that they accommodated myself and the group I was with half an hour before closing. The staff were not conversational, they didn't ask us how was the food, they didn't fill up our waters, or even ask us what drinks we wanted, additionally, they didn't bring out the bill... I have attached pictures of our oil drenched food and the soggy seafood pancake...

Okay, I don't know why this place has so many bad reviews because my experience here was very good.
My person and I ordered 2 bibimbaps, a kimbap and some steamed veggie mandu (6pc). One thing that surprised me was lack of banchan (the side dishes that are typically served with the meal). Other than that, they had solid dishes! Their bibimbap was served with a raw egg, and the gochujang was served separately. The kimbap had bulgogi in it, as well as crab meat (not really a fan of crab meat in my kimbap, but that's really just a personal preference). The veggie dumplings were yummy and perfectly steamed.
Overall, the service was good. I like to keep my interaction with the servers at minimum so it was perfect in my opinion.
This is a solid establishment, I am not sure what the other yelpers have experienced (perhaps there was a change in the kitchen staff/servers) but my
experience was very positive so don't hesitate to try them out!

Our third Korean restaurant in two days in a four block radius.  How do they stack up?  Great!!!  It started off slow with us looking for a place to eat and I wanted pork belly and we went in asking if they had Korean BBQ.  The place didn't look spectacular from the outside and inside it did look dated.  BUT if you know Korean BBQ places, this fit perfectly!  Loved the classic Korean styled furniture and the decorations on the walls.  Most of the touristy Non Koreans would mistake it for tacky and 70's style. Not so!

So we enter and we ask if they have BBQ and they point us to a table with the BBQ cooking grill in the center of a table and we proceed to sit there.

I ask if they have Pork Belly and they show us no.88 on the menu.  BBQ pork belly with miso paste soup, kimchi pancake, rice and lettuce and side dishes.  $19/person minimum two orders.  So $40.00 basically.  After deciding on that my brother orders a Korean beer called Cass.

I was feeling a bit unsure about our order and worried that it wouldn't be that good based on the reviews others wrote here.  The only good review coming from an Asian Yelper.  The rest I realize now are,,, well,,,, not worth reading.  They're touristy and I can rarely trust touristy reviews.

    But that's my opinion.

When the food came out. Kimchi pancake, Pork, rice then soup.  We were amazed at the quantity of the food as well as the quality.
My biggest worry was if the pork belly was any good.  You see, yesterday's pork belly at the other Korean place tasted very off and like an idiot, I kept eating it till I got sick, bad sick.  Don't go there sick.

Happy to say the food was great!
I'm giving them 4 stars for this dish.  I'm sure the other BBQ items are just as good.

One thing I noticed is that new customers walking in who don't know what to expect are asked to look at the picture items on the walls.  They're missing out on the real BBQ items.

The owners mama san said they recently got the BBQ installed a few months ago.
So I'm spreading the news.  Try out Korean BBQ. Grill your meat and learn how to eat this delicacy.

If you don't know how to eat Korean food, watch some K dramas and you'll get the techniques right.

Best Korean food in town? This place and Gueng for the family style Korean food.

The service you may find a bit slow or different, but once they warm up, it's all good.  When I'm back in town, I'm coming back.

    Best BBQ in town.

I don't typically write reviews, but the level of bad that our dinner was truly warranted this exception.

First, the atmosphere. We were sat down fairly quickly given that most of the restaurant was empty, despite it being prime dinner time. Unfortunately, one of the other two tables that were occupied were a family that had a child loudly wailing for a solid ten minutes. The parents looked apathetic, and the waiters said absolutely nothing. The ambiance is clearly not of import to this restaurant.

We settled on ordering a large myriad of food - soups, premade bbq and vegetable dishes, and raw meat that we were to barbeque ourselves. The seafood soup was incredibly bland and desperately needed seasoning. The pork bone soup was acceptable, and this is a strange complaint, but there was way too much meat and bone for the amount of soup offered (felt like less than a cup of liquid).

The premade dishes were the most well made of all that we ordered. A pork bulgogi and a vegetable teriyaki dish was ordered, and both were decent. Only two dishes that we had no complaints with during our meal.

However, the raw barbeque meats and the dishes surrounding them tanked the dinner experience. First, we had a medium-sized party, and ordered three sets of bbq. However, we were only provided three incredibly small dishes of sauce, and though we ordered three sets of bbq and this is said to be included in each set, we only received one small dish of kimchi and sweet potato. We had to ask for extra side dishes and sauces. The excuse was that each set of meat is allowed one plate of sauce, but that is incredibly stingy for a Korean restaurant serving bbq - a small dish of sauce costs pennies, while each set of meat is 20-30$. Not to mention they only serve two small dishes compared to the 6+ typically offered at other Korean restaurants. The bbq also came with a kimchi pancake: bland and absolutely soaked in oil, and a tofu..? soup (also only one served despite three sets ordered). The soup tasted sour as though it had gone bad, and another reviewer here absolutely nails his experience - terrible and requires access to a washroom after consumption.

Onto the meats itself, it is surprising that someone managed to screw up meat. They literally serve slices of meat with absolutely no marinade or flavoring. The cut of meat is also mediocre - pork is more fat than meat (and as someone who loves fat, this was a detriment rather than imparting flavor), and beef is cut with the grain and ridiculously chewy. Their justification is that the meat is supposed to be dipped in sauce and wrapped in lettuce, but this just circles back to the issue of providing us a pitiful amount of sauce, and doesn't really redeem the textural issue of the meat.

I hope someone looking to try this restaurant appreciates this life story of a review. If you still decide to give it a go, I urge you to only order the premade dishes. They are the only thing keeping this review from being one star.

If you are from out of town (and especially from Vancouver), swerve the hell away from this place. It is hilariously expensive for the "food" served, and it's not even worth. Go to Bon Ga on Glenmore.
